Mid-Valley Community Police Council (MVCPC) is a non-profit community service organization founded in 1978 by Mr. Sid Miller and a small group of local community members, both business and residents. These community members believed that crime prevention was everyone's responsibility. They recognized the need to have their police officers better equipped to meet the needs of the community. Realizing the City of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Police Department were unable to allocate the money needed for some specialized equipment and training, MVCPC created an annual fundraiser, Citizen's Recognition Luncheon, which honored ordinary community members that had gone well beyond the call of duty to either prevent or assist in preventing a crime.
In 1994 MVCPC put together an additional annual fundraiser, Cop's 'n Cowboy's Dinner, Dance and Auction. At this event a variety items are donated and sold at auction.
With the money raised at these two events, MVCPC is able to provide funding for officers to attend specialized training, and purchase equipment that the police department can not fund. Over the past 25 years the MVCPC has funded the complete remodeling of the police station's roll call room, community relations office, administration office and watch commander's office; funded big screen televisions for training, specialized tactical lights for every shotgun, vending machines for employee moral, electronic access door locks for added security, video monitoring equipment for the jail area, ergonomic chairs for the desk officers, computers, Power Point presentation equipment, digital cameras, etc.
Mid-Valley Community Police Council recognized that our police employees go most of the time without any type of recognition and over the years MVCPC has given hundreds of awards and commendations to the officers in recognition for their fine work in making the community a better and safer place to live.
